The best way to find a job, especially one you love is to keep persevering! One of my most willing and open students I have met with just landed a job with his dream company! It is a perfect match for his skills, aspirations, and non-work passions. How did he get such a great gig? By building relationships… and persistence.

I wish I had video footage of his networking endeavors because they would make an instant classic. This student not only took the initiative to conduct an informational interview, but he did several. In fact, he successfully met with most of the top leaders in the organization. He supplemented this with impeccable follow-up in the forms of thank you cards and touch-base emails.

The result? His dream job… 7 months after he started the process. I never said getting the job you want was easy, but he persistently kept in contact for 7 months. By the time a position opened up (with two ladies he had already befriended), he was the easy choice. Not only did he know the product inside and out, but he had built the trust factor and he had a firm understanding of the needs of the organization. This is the perfect example of getting on the “inside track”.

Effort + focus X time = a pretty darn cool job
